Games for Writers

Alex J Cavanaugh is hosting a blogfest today about our favourite games. Here are my top three that I think writers will like:

Cluedo - hands down, my absolute favourite. Of course I forget to actually try and win and just have a wonderful time throwing red herrings and making accusations. Every time one of my opponents even flinches, I quickly jot down their suspicious activity. These notes do not help me win at all, but they do give me some fun new ideas for stories.

Sims Pets - Okay, I don't actually play the game, but I do love creating the dogs :) Sims is great for creating your characters, you really need to think about their features and dress sense.

Charades - Hey, it's cool. Yes it is. I just think this can be so much fun, and it makes you really think about words and their meaning.

I would have included Scrabble, but I have a wonderful friend who is zany and fun, but when it comes to Scrabble - she's turns it into a deadly extreme sport. Check out the blogfest, maybe there's a game you'd like to play with your family?

  1. I'm hopeless at Scrabble, which doesn't bode well for my status as a writer!

    Loved your choices!

  3. Guesstures is Charades with a timer. So much fun!! My mom's favorite game is Scrabble. My personal challenge is to come up with the cleverest word.

  4. Cluedo? Is that anything like Clue? Mrs peacock did it in the library with a knife? Ha ha, I remember that one, played it all the time. Great games you listed here.

  8. What a fun idea. I have friends who have personality changes while playing Scrabble, too. It's a full-contact sport for them. :) Love charades, too.

  11. Hmm, I don't think I've ever played Charades. Honest! Probably because it would annoy me if my mates couldn't figure out what I was trying to say when it's SO obvious. lol

  12. Never heard of Simspets but it sounds cute. I made the mistake of teaching my grand daughter how to play charades last weekend. She's not quite got the hang of it but wouldn't stop playing it!

I've blogged about games from when I was a kid. http://rosalindadam.blogspot.com

  16. You're too cute with the Cluedo. I like Scrabble, but Charades, not as much. I LOVE Pictionary though... it is the acting piece I am bad at.

  22. Hey fellow Aussie Blogger, I'm also writing children's books - a series based on a beautiful kangaroo called Merrilyn, who's also the subject of my blog. Good to know you and enjoyed your post, (love Cleudo and I also make scrabble an extreme sport!), and will follow.

  26. Cluedo looks like Clue, which I had forgotten about. I love that games.

Charades is good too. We actually just played it a couple of weeks ago and had to teach my daughter all the short cut signs, like for movie, number of words, that kind of stuff.
