November - not just #NaNoWriMo

November certainly is a busy month! Not only are writers around the world rushing to complete 50,000 words in one month, and gents are combing out that Movember fuzz on their upper-lips, but it's also the month when plastic dinosaurs come to life!

Dinovember is the imaginative creation of Refe Tuma and his wife, as they dedicate every November to convincing their children the toy dinosaurs come to life at night.

I loved this idea and had to share it with my girls, wishing they were still young enough to believe in magic dino toys. Oh what fun I could have had with our elaborate collection of all things prehistoric when Emily was just a wee little palaeontologist in the making.

'Do the kids really believe?' She asked me.
'Id believe, if someone did it for me,' I responded, and perhaps my tone was a bit wistful and nostalgic, because the next morning I awoke to this:
The dinosaurs got out of their tub!
They snuck out of the garage...
And migrated up the stairs.
One got into the cat food...
Pinkachu was NOT impressed.
Things may have gotten out of hand. It's always fun until a saurus gets stir-fried.

    1. Shelly, I've found the dogs think I'm hilarious - the cat just thinks I'm an idiot.

    1. Joy, this was our first Dinovember, and I don't think it will be our last. Lots of fun.

  3. I loved this series of photos-- just loved the creative playfulness of it (and very elaborate set ups). Did your kids set all this up or you? Either way-- great fun!

    1. Not I, Julie - I suspect Emily, although she innocently claimed to have no participation in the night of the living toys. I did love it :)

    1. Me too Marian! Just as exciting as Santa's visit, except the only 'gifts' you'll be left are little plastic dino poo.

  5. I hadn't heard of Dinovember before, but what a cool idea. That would have been fun to do when my son was little. He's a young adult now. I showed him the pictures and he smiled. : )

    1. Not just for kids Susanne! I think it could be a nice tradition for teens and young adults to do for their parents (I enjoyed waking up to the frozen dino stories). :)

  6. Love those pictures! lol

I would believe. When I was a kid, I had all kinds of rubber and plastic dinosaurs AND creepy crawlers. Wish my parents had been creative in playing with us. :)

    1. Diane, me too! It was those little ugly Trolls for me, but Emily has always been a dino girl. Of all the toys we've tossed over the years, these are the ones she can't let go.

  7. LOL! What fun. YES, kids play make-believe like a boss, and why can't we every so often? I think Wash from the Firefly TV show was the most loveable character, and he played with toy dinosaurs. "Curse you and your inevitable betrayal!"

    1. Crystal - That scene is our favourite from Firefly! Emily actually has a t-shirt with the dinos and 'inevitable betrayal' on it.

  10. Charmaine...

This was a pure-tee delight! Loved it. And what crafty kids you have. The dinosaur in the cat food was ingenious. It's almost like Toy Story.

Yes, November is FULL of things to do...so many, I'm behind in them all! Great post to usher in this Saturday morning over coffee.

  11. So much fun. My daughter would have loved this when she was just a bit smaller. :)

And I love that your cat is called Pikachu!
