Y is for YA Writing

I'm very excited :)

I need to take my girls to Sydney in May for a dinosaur show, and it just happens to be the same weekend there are some great events happening for the Sydney Writers Festival!

I've signed up for a day's workshop on writing for YAs hosted by Jeni Mawter:

Do you try to attend workshops, or writers festivals? I get so much out of them, even if the information is not new (and there's always something new), I get so motivated to write by being in the presence of other writers. If you need an excuse here's my post:

  1. Workshops are treasure troves of information your subconscious absorbs to help you when you least expect it. Good luck and have fun.

  2. Excellent, i look forward to a report on the conference/workshop. Ask the teacher 'what is YA?' and make her explode.

  5. I attended one festival and met Dean Koontz. Gave him a copy of my book too. No workshops though. But I can see how they would be advatageous to sign up for a few.

  6. I haven't attended very many. I've heard so many good experiences people have had that I'm rethinking my position on it. Hope you have fun at your workshop. Sounds like a good one just based on the title alone!

  7. I should be putting more work into my YA novel. Reading your post reminds me I've been neglecting it, but only one more day to go!

  8. Love festivals and conferences and meet-ups and writer's groups and scriptreadings and coffee with other artists. You don't have to convince me. The dinosaur show sounds terrific. Enjoy!

  10. Workshops are good because writing is a lonely and solitary occupation

  11. Writing events are a great place to learn more about craft, find inspiration, recharge your batteries, meet authors/editors/agents, and connect with other writers who share your passion. :-)
